Flyers

Since the internet offered you the ability to choose the product you are interested in, you search and you choose based on what you are looking for. We search for products because it’s convenient, fast and we get what we want. Yesterday many Toronto and Mississauga companies offered me their products and services that I’m not interested in by very traditional way. Taking out only 3 letters addressed to me and over 100 pages of flayers and commercial materials that I have never signed up for, from my mailbox is a common thing in where I live. It’s actually my daily routine and I got use to it. My landlord keeps a big trash bin near by and everyone simply sort through their junk mail hoping to find the real one and the rest goes to the trash. But not this time. There was just too much junk-mail in that bin. It didn’t even fit in to it anymore and it was all over the floor. It was really hard to not notice that and that made me thinking. I decided to find out how much of that junk mail is actually read by us because it was more than obvious that most of it is thrown away. By comparing the content in a junk-mail bin and my mailbox, suggesting that everyone is receiving the same offers, turned my micro project in to some stunning results.

85% of junk mail we receive is simply thrown away. Print development is a complicated and time consuming process with many people and lot of money involved. Printouts need to be 1.Written 2. designed 3. printed 4. distributed and than they go straight to the garbage. So how effective is that? My little case study doesn’t have to be as accurate as some global once like the one from Ask500people.com and their Do you read flyers that you have in your mailbox? where 71% of asked Canadians do not read it at all. No wonder. Print industry is not environmentally friendly and efficient anymore. Most of advertising today is made online because it just works better, it is cheaper and allows you to reach bigger and more targeted audience faster and more effectively.

Adverting online

Advantages:

  • Better Targeting - You can target your campaign to a specific audience utilizing zip code, city, age or demographics ensures campaigns only reach highly qualified recipients.
  • Immediate Response - Your audience is only one click away from the advertisers website to learn more about a product, register for information, or even buy.
  • Proof of Performance - Online advertisers have the ability to test and optimize the effectiveness of their online campaigns in real time including impressions, clicks, and conversions to ensure the right message is reaching the right audience.

Disatvantages

  • Information Overload - There can be too much good information too. There can be a lot of competition for an industry, this can leave you more confused than if there were presented with loads of crap.
